Vintage Racing Videos

We love to watch vintage race footage! (“Vintage”: Any race that’s been recorded on VHS tape or previous formats.) This video is from the Jeff Hapala home video collection. It features racing from the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND around the 1970 racing season. It was originally shot on 8mm film.

The Track That Nature Owns

The Racing Life spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon traveling to the old abandoned Wee Town Outlaw Speedway near Fergus Falls, MN. The 1/2 high-banked track held it’s last race back in 1993 not knowing it wouldn’t return in 1994. Water completely took over the track making it impossible to operate anymore. To view a picture gallery of our trip to Wee Town, click on our Facebook link HERE.

The Racing Life is turning this into a video project and is looking for any old video footage, pictures or memorabilia from the track. If you have anything please e-mail Scott Sailer at scott@theracinglife.com.

The Future Of Racing

If you haven’t been to Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN this season… you’re missing out! The improvement they’ve made to the facilities is awesome! And the car count was huge for a Sunday night race. We were there tonight supporting the Red River Kart Club and our daughter Gwen. (She’s in the pink kart) The Kart Club was invited to run an exhibition race at intermission and the crowd and the kids had a blast! The Racing Life is proud to support the future of racing and we’re thankful to BRRP for allowing us to come out.

The Rain Couldn’t Stop Tony Stewart Night

A brief but heavy rainstorm at 4:30pm had Tony Stewart Night in doubt at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND. But the Schatz family went all out to make sure the track was as dry and smooth as it could be. Despite missing the final transfer spot in his heat, NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart went on to win the B-main giving him a 16th place starting position in the A-main. He worked his way around traffic and some developing holes in the track to come home in a solid 7th place finish in his Rocket Chassis Late Model prepared by #50 Late Model driver Jeff Wildung. This was Stewart’s 3rd Late Model race at the Speedway. In his first appearance in 2010 he finished 3rd and in 2011 he crashed shortly after starting the race.

On the last lap of his heat race, NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart gets passed for the last transfer spot by #12 Brad Seng going into turn 4.

A late afternoon rain storm made the track a challenge to keep smooth all night so the heavy equipment was brought out to smooth over some holes before feature time.
